Course Details
The TESOL on a Yacht course is four weeks long, each week consisting of adventure and education. Below please see the detailed course details.
Week One
During the first week all students will stay in Hua Hin, this is the home base for the course. The first week is spent covering the theory and history of teaching English as a second language, lesson planning and lectures in how to teach grammar, reading, speaking and listening to non-native speakers. Students will also present their first lesson on teaching grammar.
Week Two
The second and third week of the course (a total of 10 days) are spent aboard a modern, 38-foot Lagoon super catamaran travelling through the different islands in the Adaman Sea and Phang Nga Bay around Phuket, including world reown Phi Phi island and Lanta island, as well as Krabi. During this time students will be able to enjoy a range of beach and cultural activities, including fishing, swimming, visiting temples, visiting fishing villages, snorkelling, sea kayaking, hiking and just relaxing on the beach.
Week Three
While on the Yacht there is “light” instruction on Thai language and Thai culture. The topic of classroom management will also be discussed. These topics are chosen specifically because they are easy to understand and absorbed and do not distract from the primary purpose of the trip which is fun, relaxation, and cultural discovery.
Week Four
The fourth week of the course is fairly rigorous and is spent presenting a series of lessons and getting feedback from the instructor and peers. Students will then take an in-class final exam and prepare lesson plans for the Teach Travel Asia non-profit English camp; students will spend two days teaching English at the English camp.
