About Us
Teach Travel Asia provides people with the ability to unlock the adventure and life-changing experience of teaching and learning abroad.
We do this through a range of certification courses both over the internet and in-class that prepare clients for rewarding, cross-cultural teaching positions in countries around the world. We also offer education programs, such as Muay Thai and Thai cooking that enable clients to experience the adventure of studying abroad. In addition to educational courses, Teach Travel Asia also provides placement services to find English teachers the right job and to smooth their transition into a new culture.
Teach Travel Asia understands very well the rewards of cross-cultural experiences. Teach Travel Asia’s founder, Kevin Meldau was a volunteer teacher in Thailand for more than six years, traveling throughout the country with a group of like-minded college graduates and stopping at one village after another to teach English to people of all ages and occupations, from monks to medical personnel. His group of teachers were provided a small stipend to live on and often slept in cots in the schools. When they needed a break, they jetted to the islands, sleeping in makeshift cabins or tents on the beach.
The local people were very grateful to Kevin and his fellow English teachers for their contribution. Realizing how much of an impact this experience had on him, and seeing how much Thai people valued learning English, in 2005 Kevin started Teach Travel Asia to help others from around the world share in this adventure and to begin to give back to a country that had given him so many wonderful experiences and friendships.
Since 2005, Teach Travel Asia has expanded significantly, offering placement beyond Thailand and even beyond Asia. Teach Travel Asia now offer placement in more than 10 countries around the world, as well as a range of internationally accredited programs in TESOL (teaching English to speakers of other languages). To date, Teach Travel Asia has trained hundreds of teachers and placed more than 2,000 in teaching jobs. The company has also embarked on a non-profit initiative to provide free English camps for disadvantaged youth and works closely with the Thai government to research and develop programs in civic education. Teach Travel Asia’s impressive growth and social involvement stems from the vision of its founder Kevin Meldau to share the adventure of teaching abroad with others and to help lift up local communities.
Michael Volpe joined Kevin as a partner in Teach Travel Asia in 2010. Michael’s extensive educational background and work experience teaching online have contributed enormously to the rapid expansion of Teach Travel Asia’s education and social outreach programs. Kevin and Michael met in Thailand in 2003, when both were working in the Thai advertising industry, and they have been close friends ever since.
Teach Travel Asia’s headquarters is located in Hua Hin, Thailand, a historically important and culture-rich beach community just two and a half hours south of Bangkok.
When I started this company I did not think we would develop to have such a positive impact on so many lives. Seeing the company grow, from a small placement agency into one of the best TESOL providers in the business, and knowing the impact we have on so many lives, has really made me even more committed to making a difference. – Kevin Meldau, Founder and Managing Director (Placement and Logistics)
The Teach Travel Asia Mission and Vision
Our goal is to give adults of all ages the ability to unlock the adventure of teaching and learning abroad.
The Teach Travel Asia mission is to provide high-quality TESOL certification courses that give clients the knowledge and skills necessary to become successful English-as-a-second-language teachers. This includes the development of other competencies, such as public speaking and facilitation, that clients can use beyond the classroom in whatever future careers they may find themselves.
Teach Travel Asia’s Mission is also to help our clients transition to a new life by taking all the anxiety out of going overseas and settling down in a completely new environment. From visa application support, to airport pick-ups, language and culture training, cultural excursions, interview preparation, full job placement assistance, alumni events, and new teacher mentoring, Teach Travel Asia aims to seamlessly transition our clients into a foreign country and give them all the tools and support to be successful.
The Teach Travel Asia Vision is that working and taking an educational course abroad is an amazing adventure that can change a person’s life by broadening their perspective and making them more aware and in touch with the world around them. Working and learning abroad fosters cross-cultural understanding and appreciation for both teachers and students.
We see a world where teachers and students from different cultural backgrounds can come together to share exciting and meaningful experiences and build lifelong friendships. A world where people can make a difference by teaching English to the youth, and particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds; helping them to build an important capability that will contribute significantly to bettering their lives.
Teach Travel Asia has a very strong sense of mission. We are committed to preparing our guys for an incredible experience. We also understand and embrace the great responsibility we have to help local people. Take Thailand for example. Thailand is a very class-oriented society in which if you are poor, there are few opportunities to move up. The one concrete path to the middle class for lower-income Thai people is through learning to speak English. I tell all of our English teachers that they should feel proud to be teaching something that is so important in helping Thai people to build more prosperous lives. – Michael Volpe, Managing Director (Education Services)
